Using Microsoft Office Files with Google Drive

You can open, edit and save Office Files using the Google Drive desktop software - Just double-click the file to open like usual. Office files will sync in Drive just like any other file.

The Google Drive plug-in allows you to open and save Office files stored on Google Drive from within your Office apps, instead of needing to access Google Drive directly.

You can open and edit Office files using the equivalent G Suite service (Sheets, Docs, Slides, etc..) by installing the Office Editing for Docs, Sheets, and Slides Chrome extension. Once the extension is installed, Office files that you drag into Chrome, open in Gmail, Google Drive, and more, will be opened in Docs, Sheets, and Slides for viewing and editing.

You can save each file back to its original Office format, or convert it to Docs, Sheets, or Slides to unlock more features, like inviting others to edit with you, commenting, chat, and more.
